Our readers ranked The Boyd School as the DC area’s best Montessori school in 2012, and it’s no surprise that they’ve locked in that top position again this year as well. Providing, in their words, “superior Montessori environments and dynamic 21st century learning experiences,” The Boyd School’s seven campuses serve children from infancy through sixth grade.
The Boyd School passionately supports academic excellence, lifelong learning, independent thinking and organized problem solving. In embracing the true Montessori philosophy, the school “create[s] a warm, welcoming and secure place for children to challenge themselves and excel.” Developing children’s social and intellectual abilities doesn’t stop at the school’s doors, however, as the teachers and staff are also committed to “helping parents better understand the learning style and temperament of their child and work together to maximize children’s strengths.”
The Boyd School boasts an impressive accreditation record, with accreditation by the following: The Southern Association of Colleges & Schools, AdvancED and the American Montessori Society, as well recognition by the Virginia Council for Private Education. This makes The Boyd School only one of five programs in Virginia to receive these honors. Most importantly, all seven campuses of The Boyd School are accredited, making this program the premier choice for parents who wish to place their children in public school after kindergarten.
The school’s academic curriculum focuses on self-motivation and creativity, where teachers work to model and encourage a genuine love of learning within each individual student. Students explore math, language arts, cultural studies, science and practical/developmental skills in a truly child-supportive environment. This is surely why so many parents and families in the Greater DC area have rallied behind this outstanding program.
